Scott Donaton

Editor, Advertising Age, Crain Communications, Inc. 

Scott Donaton is editor of Advertising Age, the world’s leading advertising, marketing and media publication. In that role, he oversees the editorial strategy and editorial operations of the weekly Advertising Age, which reaches more than 300,000 readers, as well as various line extensions, including AdAge.com and the Ad Age Daily Fax.

In addition to overseeing Ad Age’s editorial operations, Mr. Donaton writes an every other weekly column in Advertising Age.
 
Mr. Donaton was promoted to editor of Advertising Age in 1998 after serving three years as executive editor. Prior to that, he served as editor of TV Guide Online, where he was responsible for developing and launching the online edition of the nation’s largest‑circulation weekly magazine.
 
Mr. Donaton first joined Advertising Age in 1989, and held a series of posts, including reporter, senior reporter and deputy bureau chief. In 1993, he was promoted to editor of Advertising Age’s Interactive Media & Marketing section, a ground‑breaking weekly section devoted to critical coverage of emerging media technologies. He was later promoted to executive editor‑new media, a role in which he oversaw the editorial development and launch of AdAge.com, as well as the weekly Interactive section.
 
Mr. Donaton’s work has won awards from the American Business Press, American Society of Business Press Editors and Crain Communications. He was twice named to Business News Reporter’s list of  “30 Under 30.” He is also a frequent speaker at industry events and makes numerous media appearances, including on NBC’s “Today” show and other network news programs.
