Washington, DC, May 19, 2021 –The American Advertising Federation proudly announces Steve Hall as the 2021 Barton A. Cummings Gold Medal Award recipient. In an ever-evolving world, one thing remains certain…The commitment to higher education, the advertising industry and the AAF has never been more evident than through the lifelong devotion of Steve Hall, Senior Lecturer in Advertising at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Established by the American Advertising Federation's board of directors in 1994, to recognize distinguished individuals for their volunteer service to advertising through work with the AAF, the award is the AAF’s highest volunteer service award. “I’m pleased to honor one of our top advertising educators with the Barton A. Cummings Gold Medal Award. Steve Hall has been a consistent supporter of AAF Advertising Educational efforts, not only at the local level through the University of Illinois, but also at the district, regional and national level for the AAF,” AAF President and CEO Steve Pacheco said. Hall began his volunteer service to AAF 24 years ago in 1997, when he became the student advisor to the university’s AAF student chapter. In addition to advising the chapter, Hall has spent time on a wide variety of AAF initiatives. “Steve Hall’s work goes well beyond education; he has also served as a mentor to many who have gone on to great careers in Advertising. Hall has consistently created opportunities for his students that go far beyond the classroom and the curriculum. In addition to advising his school’s National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) team, Hall has been actively involved in the AAF where he serves on the National Education Executive Committee.” “The AAF has recognized Steve Hall’s decades-long contributions as an educator, leader, and advisor. First in 2005 with the James S. Fish “Aid to Advertising Education” Award, and in 2016 as the sole recipient of our Distinguished Advertising Educator Award.” During AAF’s annual conference ADMERICA, Hall will be bestowed the Gold Medal during a reception in his honor June 8.
