Re: DTC Threatened -Club Board Members Please Involve Entire Membership

As we alerted you last week, the U.S. House of Representatives hopes to move quickly on a prescription drug benefit. House leaders conducted a news event yesterday and again stated their intention to pass the plan by Memorial Day.

The first step for the bill will be the Ways and Means Committee. We know that Bill Thomas (R-CA), the chairman of the committee, believes advertising is a key reason for rising drug costs and would like to include a provision penalizing either companies for advertising their products or consumers for using advertised products.

Your member of Congress sits on the Ways and Means Committee. It is more important than ever that you and members of your advertising club contact him or her to explain the benefits of DTC advertising, and your opposition to any proposal penalizing the advertising.

AAF thanks those of you who have already written to your Representative and sent a copy of your letter to us. Your swift response is a crucial part of grassroots action.
