Re: Urgent Legislative Alert
The California legislature approved a bill last Thursday that will put significant restrictions on businesses communicating with their customers via fax. In a move that overlooks the federal Junk Fax Prevention Act of 2005, state lawmakers created a far more restrictive state statute. SB 833 requires that business obtain "express permission" before sending fax communications even to existing customers. The restriction would include advertising club communications with members.
SB 833 would place an unneeded and expensive administrative burden on advertising clubs by requiring them to obtain written permission from each member before communicating with them by fax.
The bill has been sent to Governor Schwarzenegger. Please contact the Governor and ask him to veto SB 833.
