The 2005 Barton A. Cummings Gold Medal Award is presented to longtime AAF
volunteer Judy Thompson.
Judy ThompsonJudy Thompson began her long career in advertising with Meredith Corporation as a sales promotion copywriter for Successful Farmingmagazine. Her career took off, and she has worked in the advertising arena for numerous companies such as Griswold-Eshleman, Cincinnati Bell, Northlich-Stolley, Cinergy and LAO Advertising. She now works as a freelance writer for Words by JT.
Thompson's volunteer career with the AAF has had equal longevity, starting with her involvement with the Women's Advertising Club of Des Moines Inc. in 1967. After moving to Cincinnati, she eventually served as the president of the Cincinnati Advertising Club in 1982, the fourth woman president in 78 years. Her next job was governor of AAF's District 5, and she has chaired the District 5 ADDYs three times and the District 5 NSAC once. She also has served as a distinguished ADDY judge many times. She is the only member of the Advertising Club of Cincinnati to have twice received the club's Distinguished Service Award. In 1993 Thompson was awarded the prestigious Silver Medal by both the Advertising Club of Cincinnati and by AAF’s District 5.
