Manager, Digital Marketing and Content Strategy


The American Advertising Federation (AAF), the nation’s oldest national advertising trade association, and the only association representing all facets of the advertising industry, is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and acts as the "Unifying Voice for Advertising." The AAF also has 15 district operations, each located in and representing a different region of the nation. The AAF’s membership is comprised of nearly 100 blue chip corporate members comprising the nation’s leading advertisers, advertising agencies, and media companies; a national network of nearly 200 local federations, representing 40,000 advertising professionals, located in ad communities across the country; and more than 200 AAF college chapters, with over 6,500 student members. The AAF operates a host of programs and initiatives including the Advertising Hall of Fame, the American Advertising Awards, the National Student Advertising Competition, the Diversity Achievement and Mosaic Awards, AAF Thought Leadership programs and summer Ad Camps for high school students in Chicago, New York City and Washington, D.C.


This position is focused on building, maintaining, analyzing and optimizing digital marketing initiatives reaching corporate, professional and student members, and/or advertising professionals nationwide. The Manager, Digital Marketing and Content Strategy will conceive, create and execute innovative digital and social media marketing strategies and oversee all digital communications. Working closely with the Manager, Graphic Design and Production, as well as a team of AAF program managers, and reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the Manager, Digital Marketing and Content Strategy will oversee all aspects of digital marketing and content strategy including website development and content strategy, e-mail and social media.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Day to day management of AAF website and microsite content plus SEO.
  • Oversee all e-mail marketing, working with program managers to ensure proper design and delivery.
  • Drive social strategy and paid social marketing through platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Vimeo, YouTube, Instagram and Flickr.
  • Ensure all programs and content are developed with socialization mind.
  • Attend AAF events and drive conversations in real-time.
  • Manage blogger relations for various AAF events.
  • Manage search engine marketing efforts including AAF Google Grants program.
  • Event management including online registration setup, registration reporting and attendee communications.
  • Oversee AAF Digital Thought Leadership, driving program growth and working with AAF corporate members to generate guest blog posts, branded content, webinars and spearheading the Experience Digital conference series.
  • Regularly update staff with new trends and best practices in digital.
  • Help to implement new CRM system
  • Manage communications budget.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in marketing, business, communications or related field.
  • 5+ years experience in advertising or marketing with strong focus on digital.
  • Comprehensive understanding of social media advertising including Facebook ads manager, LinkedIn campaigns and Twitter advertising.
  • Experience with Facebook Power Editor a plus.
  • E-mail management using Constant Contact or similar platform.
  • Strong understanding of website and campaign metrics reporting with Google Analytics experience preferred.
  • Proven experience building and managing Google AdWords campaigns.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver.
  • Proven experience implementing and managing a Wordpress website.
  • HTML proficiency required. Familiarity with CSS, JavaScript, PHP a plus.
  • Must have a firm understanding of web development process including domain registration, hosting setup, FTP, content management, and basic web server troubleshooting (i.e. able to communicate issues with hosting support team).
  • Ability to work autonomously with little supervision.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at once, meeting deadlines and staying under budget.
  • Excellent written, oral communications and organizational skills.

Location: Washington, D.C.
Travel Requirement: 5-10%
