Robert Calmer, AAF-Cleveland, to Receive Chic Davis Memorial Award
The AAF will honor 20-year Chair of the AAF-Cleveland American Advertising Awards with the 2016 Chic Davis Memorial Award.
WASHINGTON, D.C., May 3, 2016—Robert (Bob) Calmer, AAF-Cleveland American Advertising Awards Chair and Co-Chair has been selected as this year’s Chic Davis Memorial Award recipient for his longstanding commitment to the Federation and the American Advertising Awards. The American Advertising Federation (AAF) is pleased to honor Calmer with this award at its upcoming annual national conference, ADMERICA in June recognizing his longstanding membership with the AAF and his commitment and service its programs.
The Chic Davis Memorial Award was developed to honor Chic Davis, a long time member of the AAF whose years of service were committed to the success of the American Advertising Awards. The award recognizes members who have championed the American Advertising Awards and helped elevate the program’s image, financial success and awareness among entrants and members. Robert Calmer was selected as the 2016 recipient for his true embodiment of this award.
During his tenure at AAF-Cleveland, Calmer has overseen the Showbook layout and design, as well as creative collateral for the call for entries and tickets. He has been instrumental in selecting and presenting trophies, organizing the show and its ambience and selecting an emcee. Bob’s involvement and contributions to the show have had a positive impact on the event’s attendance rates, as well as the club’s membership growth.
“In my almost 30 years as an AAF member and longtime associate board director, I cannot think of anyone else who exemplifies the dedication, devotion, volunteerism and talent necessary to pull off a successful American Advertising Awards program,“ said Karen Ohlrich, Marketing Manager, Codesummit LLC. “Bob has stood beside me as chair, co-chair, committee member and tireless volunteer. Through all of Bob’s endeavors, one thing has remained constant – his dedication to his profession, to our club and his involvement with our committee.”
Bob has not only been a member of the AAF, but has significantly contributed to AAF-Cleveland’s local competition. He has donated creative work, designed displays and served as emcee when needed. Since the late 1980s, he has served as Creative Director, as well as Art Director for many local agencies. As the industry has changed, so has Calmer and his creative vision for the AAF-Cleveland’s American Advertising Awards.

Robert Calmer will be honored at ADMERICA, the AAF’s annual national conference on Sunday, June 5 at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA, during the Salute to Achievers Luncheon. Each year, the conference brings leading advertising professionals, agencies, clients, media companies and college students under one roof for education, inspiration, innovation, collaboration and celebration of the advertising industry. The conference also showcases the industry’s best work during the American Advertising Awards and Mosaic Awards, and future talent during the National Student Advertising Competition finals.
