Diversity In Action No.20
Partner with education, entertainment and law enforcement entities to create best practices to dispel the stereotypes and assist in disseminating realistic images.
We can work both in our offices and in our communities to ensure we collaborate together to combat stereotypes. Realistic images create inclusion and helps individuals have a better understanding of communities different from their own.
In the spring of 2015, the AAF and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority co-sponsored “Reality TV: Realistic, Stereotypical, Helpful or Harmful?,” a series of “Watch Parties” focused on the impact of media images. During the Watch Parties, participants examined the state of African-American images in media, their effects on public perception and policy, and the role that people of good will can play in driving change. As a result, the AAF and Zeta have produced a white paper on the findings.
