Former SVP, Chief Creative Officer, Lapiz
Laurence started his career as a copywriter in São Paulo, Brazil, where he was born. He moved to Chicago in 1986 to join Leo Burnett, as a creative director on the United Airlines and Heinz accounts. He moved to Barcelona in 1995 to open W/Alta Definición in partnership with Washington Olivetto. In 2000 he moved back to Chicago and Leo Burnett, this time as chief creative officer of Lapiz, the multicultural agency of the Leo Burnett Group, and member of its North-American creative board. Under Laurence’s creative leadership, Lapiz became the most awarded agency in the history of multicultural advertising in the United States, with over 230 major International awards such as Cannes Lions, Clios, NY Festivals, London Festival, The One Show, FIAP, El Ojo, Radio Mercury, and Effies. His list of clients includes brand leaders such as Coca-Cola, Procter and Gamble, J.P. Morgan Chase, Pirelli, Johnson & Johnson, Wrigley, Allstate, Nintendo, Samsung, Kellogg’s, General Motors. Laurence was elected creative director of the year in 2011, 2013, and 2015 (Adlatina, Hispanicad, and AHAA) He served as a member the Creative Board of the Partnership for a Drug Free America, and member of the council of El Sol Awards, Bilbao, Spain. In 2015 he was elected president of the Creative Circle of U.S. Hispanic agencies.
